On 4 August 2020, a massive explosion rocked Beirut harbour. The explosion caused nearby houses to collapse. Buildings and vehicles were badly damaged over a wide area, doors and windows were smashed for kilometres, and furniture and medical equipment in hospitals were destroyed. It is estimated that around 300,000 people have lost their homes in the explosion. They are in need of temporary shelter, drinking water and food aid. Hungary was one of the first countries to offer aid to Lebanon in response to this unprecedented disaster, and the donation was made available to the affected community in less than 24 hours, greatly facilitating the relief effort to begin. The donation to Lebanese Charity through the Syrian Maronite Catholic Church of Antioch is intended to help the victims of the explosion. In total, 638 homes have been made habitable with our support.
