On 9th October, 2025, the Hungary Helps Agency officially opened the new academic year with our new scholarship holders, who have begun their studies in 2025, alongside those already participating in the Scholarship Program for Christian Young People. The Opening Ceremony was held at Church of St. Anthony of Padua. It began with a joint Roman Catholic Holy Mass, asking for blessings for the scholarship holders and for Hungary.
The Holy Mass was celebrated by Father Esiobu Anayo Augustus (Ágoston atya) and concelebrated by Father Jonas Kimeli and Father Abraham K. Birgen whose homily was heart-warming and inspiring. The occasion was made particularly memorable by the melodious music and service of the Aurora Chorale Kenyan Choir, who graced us with their presence.
After the Holy Mass, Tristan Azbej, State Secretary for the Aid of Persecuted Christians, delivered a powerful speech welcoming the new scholarship holders with words of hope.
“The Scholarship Programme for Christian Young People is one of the most beautiful examples of Christian solidarity,” he said. “Christianity has always been about standing together and helping each other when needed. Hungary is committed to extending a helping hand to those in difficult circumstances because we believe that faith can bridge even the greatest challenges. You are now part of this solidarity.”
He emphasized that the knowledge gained is not only for personal career growth but also comes with responsibility. “Christianity teaches us that what we receive, we must use for the good of others. This program aims for you to contribute to the development of your community and country when you return,” he said, adding that this responsibility is in fact an opportunity to bring real change. As a Hungarian saying goes, “You reap what you sow” – the knowledge acquired here will ultimately benefit not only individuals but their communities as well.
He concluded his speech with words of gratitude:
“Let me take a moment to thank everyone who made this program possible. I want to thank the teachers, the organizers, and most of all, you — for being here and for being ready to bring change to the world. I wish you a year filled with success, growth, and shared achievements.”
First-year scholarship holders, welcome to Hungary! We hope that your time here will be both fruitful and blessed.
